"Rolando Peña transformed the excrement of the Devil into The Barrel of God"  – Father Luis Ugalde S.J.

Art, Science and Technology:
an Initial Words

The virtual reality, the Internet or
what is transformed, will change the representation in art, aesthetics and the idea of the beautiful, as well as the tools and materials to express themselves.
They will also change our perceptual capacities and concerns as receptors. "Spontaneous rupture of symmetry: the Barrel of God" is a multidisciplinary and transversal approach to this contemporary phenomenon. The basis is solid, as we are working from the work of a pioneer
in the use of technology in art as is Rolando Peña.

Spontaneous Break of Symmetry: The Barrel of God

Science is knowledge. Technology, a practical application of that knowledge.
Both disciplines have had a powerful influence in the art of Roland
Peña. At least in five stages of his successful career as a pioneer of art
Contemporary avant-garde in Venezuela. That barrel, icon and modular element of the artistic language of Rolando Peña, infallible pattern of his works, is a whole universe of sensations, questions, uncertainties, the cosmic imaginary, bearer of a very current scientific and technological aesthetic, expressed in an interactive multimedia installation, which since 2001 is energizing the stages of the world.

Petroleum, Science and Politics

Rolando Peña is an artist whose work can be followed in varied records: from
the installation to the engraving, from the sculpture to the performance, from the
drawing of the classic vanishing points to the urban intervention of content
political, from the digital image to the video. From the event where he is the only character to the action in which a group is summoned to participate. Peña now resumes the darkest side of oil,
when used as a theme the unfortunate manipulation that is gathering the most outdated visions of a certain ideology and the more loyal economic interests of some great powers.

Art, Science and Technology in Four Times

Rolando Peña carries as an artist the affinity for the symmetry in the blood and he grows it as part of his craft. Inheritor of oriental carpets and palatial arabesques; protected of Leonardo, Velázquez, Escher, Warhol, Soto and Fontana; Antonyms player, Black and gold, purity and sin, container and content, real and virtual, analog and digital; assumes with the exhibition "Spontaneous rupture of symmetry: the Barrel of God", presented in Italy, Spain and France, the challenge of the continuation of the discourse
about the intimacies of energy.
