Art critic Stazis Gostautas once dubbed conceptual artist Rolando Peña “a pioneer in multimedia psychedelics, happenings, [and] performance shows in Latin America,” and his description couldn’t have been more accurate. Peña’s talents, which launched his career in the early '60s, are as diverse as they are intriguing. Performances, installations, printmaking, film, video, multimedia — you name it, he does it. In the 1980s, Peña began to merge his talents into a body of work that's arguably the focal point of his career, work that is fueled by oil exploitation and its social, political, and economic effects on modern consumer society.
